Escaped kidnap-accused still on the run

8:03 pm on 22 March 2009

Police interviews with friends and associates of a prisoner who escaped from the Manukau District Court have failed to lead to his recapture.

Ollies Siaea, 31, appeared in the Manukau District Court charged with kidnapping offences on Friday, and was remanded in custody.

Police say Mr Siaea then pretended to be another prisoner, who was due to be released, and fled the court.

That man is one of two people arrested on Saturday on charges of assisting a prisoner to escape.

Detective Senior Sergeant Pete Jones says the police have been speaking to friends and family of Mr Siaea and have warned them they may face charges if they assist him.

He hopes that members of the public may spot him but says his appearance may have changed from photos published in newspapers and television.

Police say anyone who helps Mr Siaea further could face up to seven years in jail.

Detective Senior Sergeant says Mr Siaea should not be approached.
