Te Anau police say a man who fell 15 metres down a waterfall into shallow water is lucky to have survived.
The 49-year-old broke his elbow and foot when he fell on the Stockyard Track at Lake Manapouri on Saturday afternoon.
A rescue helicopter winched the man to safety and took him to Invercargill hospital.
Police say it's incredible the man did not suffer more serious or fatal injuries given the height he fell.
