A man and his seven-year-old son are recovering in hospital after an explosion on their boat in Waikawa Bay in the Marlborough Sounds.
A spokesperson from the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter said the pair were thrown across the vessel in the explosion which occurred shortly after they had refueled.
They suffered moderate injuries and were flown to Wellington Hospital.
