Wellington Phoenix football coach Ricki Herbert is stepping down after a string of poor results.
Herbert has coached the Phoenix since the club was formed in 2007 and led the Phoenix to three A-league playoffs but are at the foot of this season's table.

In a statement posted on the club's website, Herbert on Tuesday cited his desire to focus on his international duties with the All Whites in a busy World Cup qualification year and his belief that the time is right for a change at the club in light of poor results this season.
Wellington Phoenix chairperson Rob Morrison said the club is pleased that Herbert will take up the role of technical football adviser to the board.
Assistant coach Chris Greenacre will take over coaching responsibilities until the end of the 2013 season.
The Phoenix has gone nine games without a win since early December, although they drew 2-2 at home last weekend against Adelaide.
Players were told of the decision on Monday night.
