Nelson is campaigning to encourage more cruise ships to dock at the South Island city.
The port is working with Nelson Tasman Tourism to market the region as a cruise ship destination.
Eight visits to Nelson are planned by cruise companies over the next two years and the plan is to boost that to 15 per season.
A shallow harbour means it is impossible for super-sized liners to berth, but it is hoped more mid-range vessels can be attracted to the port.
