A large fire ignited by a car explosion in Welcome Bay near Tauranga is under control.
The blaze covering two square kilometres of scrub land started just before 2pm on Wednesday near Ranginui Road.
Tauranga chief fire officer Ron Devlin said the cause of the fire is not yet known. Crews from Tauranga, Mount Maunganui and the Rural Fire Service attended.
