Name suppression lifted for Otara murder-accused

The man accused of fatally stabbing a South Auckland father can now be named.

Sam Simi, 25, of Otara, who is employed as a roofer, is charged with the murder of Olo Fiti, 37, on Friday night in Otara. Mr Simi lives about 1.4km from Olo Fiti's home.

Mr Simi was apprehended about 11pm on Saturday at Auckland Airport.

He appeared at the Manukau District Court on Monday and was remanded in custody.

Mr Fiti, who is survived by four children and his pregnant wife, was stabbed several times.

His parents and other relatives are due to arrive from Samoa on Thursday or Friday, and his funeral is planned for early next week.
