The Desert Road was closed for five hours after a fatal crash near the Waikato Stream bridge.
A man was taken to Whanganui Hospital with moderate injuries after the crash at 10pm on Tuesday and another person was cut out of the vehicle by the Fire Service, but died at the scene.
The road reopened at 3am.
