Ex-Bioethics Council member seeks to restart group

A former member of the disbanded Bioethics Council is hoping to set up a lobby group of council supporters to oppose the Government's decision to abolish it.

The council, set up as a result of the Royal Commission on Genetic Modification to consider ethical, spiritual and cultural issues related to biotechnology, was disestablished last month.

One of its members, sociologist Rosemary du Plessis says she wants to hear from people who will help pressure the Government to reinstate the council.

Ms du Plessis says those people may also have ideas about how the council's work can continue without funding.
