Auckland District Court has ordered two companies to pay $69,800 in fines and reparation after an abseiling window cleaner was seriously injured in a 15-metre fall.

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment said the employee of At Height Ltd fell from a Newmarket building in February last year and spent nearly a fortnight in hospital.

The ministry said the court heard she was told to attach her sling and ropes to air-conditioning ducting brackets on the roof of the building. However, the brackets were not there.

The ministry said At Height Ltd was fined $9000 and was ordered to pay reparation of $32,000 to the employee.

Building Wash Services Limited, the company that sub-contracted the work, was fined $20,800 and must pay $8000 in reparation.
