The mother of a teenager shot dead during a police pursuit in Auckland in 2009 says compensation money will help financially, but nothing will cover the loss of her son.
Courier van driver Halatau Naitoko, 17, was hit by a bullet while officers were firing at another man trying to escape on an Auckland motorway.
His mother Ivoni Fuimaono is filing a $1 million compensation claim at the High Court this week.
She says since her son's death the family has put their courier business into liquidation.
Ms Fuimaono says even if her family's claim is successful it will never be enough for losing her son.
She says she is pleased the police have made changes since the shooting but she would like to see more.
