Two men have been charged with the gunpoint kidnapping of two teenagers in Taranaki on Wednesday.

Police say two attackers forced the victims into their own car with a pistol at the Inglewood cemetery about 8pm, before releasing them in rural north Taranaki.

The 18-year-olds arrested face charges of kidnapping and aggravated robbery.

Detective Senior Sergeant Keith Borrell says another man is still at large and further arrests are likely.

Mr Borrell says police believe the pistol used was fake, but are unsure as it is yet to be found.
