Teenager pleads guilty to trading child porn

New Zealand Customs is warning parents and guardians to pay more attention to children's online habits, following the sentencing yesterday of a teenage boy for trading in online child sex abuse images.

Layton Jones was sentenced to 10 months home detention at the New Plymouth District Court after pleading guilty to 30 charges of importing, distributing and possessing child sexual abuse material.

Customs says offenders operate in an anonymous environment on the internet where such material is easily accessed or exchanged.

But it says officers works closely with local and international agencies to identify all child victims and prosecute any individuals involved.
