Five people were taken to hospital on Monday after an 82-year-old woman drove the wrong way along a Wellington motorway, causing multiple crashes.
The police say the chaos, which blocked all northbound lanes on State Highway 2 just south of the Petone off-ramp, involved a truck and several other vehicles.
The 82-year-old woman was taken to Wellington Hospital with serious injuries; four other people were taken to Hutt Valley Hospital with moderate injuries.
The road has since been cleared and reopened.
