Public urged to report finds of medical waste

The Hutt City Council is urging the public to report any medical waste found on the banks of the Hutt River or the Wellington Harbour coast.

On Friday, discarded needles, liquid medicines and expired tablets were fished out of the Hutt River near Ewen Bridge.

Hutt City's environmental investigation officer, Alan Pope, says it's possible more waste has washed further downstream and into the harbour.

He says anyone coming across such items should avoid any contact with them and notify the council.
