NZ police respond to Australian recruitment drive

Seventy New Zealand police officers have applied for jobs in Northern Terroritory following a recruitment campaign.

Of those who applied, 21 were offered jobs and 17 will start work there in the next training intake in April.

Though not directly recruiting New Zealanders, the Queensland force has received 80 applications since last September.

New Zealand Police human resources general manager Alan Cassidy says the level of interest in Australia is no cause for concern.

He says the number of officers leaving the force is very low at the moment, with an attrition rate of about 4%, and alarm bells won't ring until that rate rises above 6%.
