The police have launched a murder inquiry into the fatal shooting of a man on a rural roadside in the South Waikato.
The scene is under police guard and will be subject to a detailed forensic examination.
The man killed just after 3pm on Tram Road - a short stretch of road in the Kinleith Forest area - was a long-serving employee of construction company HEB Construction.
The company's chief executive, Derrick Adams, says staff are absolutely devastated.
The man died at the scene, but the motive for the shooting is not yet clear.
The police say background information from the family may be vital to their investigaiton.
