Auckland ethnicity idea not racist - lobby

Directors of the Grey Power lobby say a submission from one of its federations on an Auckland Council plan is not racist and will not be revoked.

Last week a senior Grey Power member, David Shand, criticised part of the submission, which asked the council to address the social impact of population increase and ethnicity changes in Auckland during the next 25 years.

The submission was written by the director of the Auckland federation of Grey Power, Bill Rayner, who said many of his members want the population to remain Pacific-based and not have such a large Asian component.

Grey Power's president, Roy Reid, says the board decided at a meeting on Tuesday that Mr Rayner's submission wasn't racist and will allow it to go forward.
