Nationwide meetings on new school standards planned

10:01 pm on 6 April 2009

The Government plans to hold meetings with parents and educators on national education standards around the country soon.

National standards - one of the National Party's election policies - will be introduced into all primary and intermediate schools from 2010.

They will use a mix of assessment tools already used in schools.

Education Minister Anne Tolley says the Government is developing draft standards with literacy, numeracy and assessment experts, and the Ministry of Education will hold meetings with schools, parents and the community between May and July.
