Police are reviewing the arrest of a Hamilton woman following a complaint to the Independent Police Conduct Authority.
Corina Tairua posted photos of bruises to her arms on social networking website Facebook, alleging she was assaulted and wrongfully arrested by police at the weekend.
The 37-year-old teacher and mother of seven was arrested early on Sunday morning for breaching Hamilton's liquor ban.
She said in a statement she was arrested for having an opened bottle of beer in her car, but she maintains it was closed.
Photos of her bruises have gone viral online and attracted nearly 2000 comments on Facebook.
Hamilton Area Commander Inspector Greg Nicholls said police will submit their review of the incident to the Independent Police Conduct Authority.
