An Ashburton woman has become the first paraplegic woman to successfully skydive solo in New Zealand.

Christine Lawn jumped from 12,000 feet at Methven on Friday.

The 40-year-old is training to achieve a skydiving A licence and completed another jump on Saturday as part of the on-going course.

She says after several tandem jumps, Friday's first solo skydive was an unforgettable experience.

Ms Lawn says the freefall was awesome and the canopy opened perfectly and the only thing that was a bit shaky was the landing.
