The Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, began a four-day visit to Wellington on Monday afternoon by meeting with medical science students from Brunei who are studying here.
The sultan's visit is designed to strengthen ties between the two countries with a focus on education and trade.
He will visit Government House and lay a wreath at the National War Memorial on Tuesday.
On Wednesday he will attend question time in Parliament, meet with Labour Party leader David Shearer and attend a dinner hosted by Prime Minister John Key.
