More safe places needed for young drinkers in capital

8:34 pm on 25 March 2013

Wellington City Youth Council says young people don't have enough safe places to go while out drinking at night.

The subject was one of many discussed at a workshop at Te Papa aimed at gaining a youth perspective on the capital's drinking culture.

Council chair Jack Marshall says about 40 people turned up to have their say.

He says many believe there aren't enough alcohol-free places where young people can go on a Saturday night to have a glass of water, rest and feel safe.

Mr Marshall says some of the points raised at the meeting will go towards the city council's draft local alcohol management strategy.
