Bad weather hampers search for US tramper

Bad weather is continuing to hamper the search for an American tramper missing in the Nelson Lakes national park for nearly six weeks.

Edward Reynolds, 39, of Pennsylvania, was last seen leaving the East Matakitaki hut for the Lewis Pass on 23 February.

Search and rescue co-ordinator Sherp Tucker says with snow on the hills and wet weather continuing, it is unlikely searchers would be sent into the bush until after the Easter weekend.

There has been four possible sightings of Mr Reynolds outside of the Nelson Lakes search area.
