Four people were left stranded after their fishing boat got stuck on a sandbar at Farewell Spit at the top of the South Island.
The Rescue Co-ordination Centre says the boat went aground about 2.30am on Monday and it has organised a nearby fishing vessel to take those on board to shore.
The centre says the 23-metre-long boat was not damaged and there is no evidence of a fuel leak.
It will remain on the narrow sandbar until it can be moved.
