Police investigate rape of a teenage girl

Updated at 9:36 pm on 12 April 2009

Police in Auckland are investigating the abduction and rape of a 13-year-old girl on Sunday morning.

They say the girl was walking in the suburb of Waterview shortly before 10am when a man verbally harassed her, then dragged her into a nearby bush where he sexually violated her.

Detective Sergeant Andy King is describing the attack as shocking and is asking the public to help identify the offender.

The man is described as Polynesian or Maori, in his twenties, with bushy hair tied in a ponytail.

He was wearing a brown or tan coloured t-shirt with a white 'Puma' logo on the front and wore a white bandage on his left elbow.
