Wellington state house complex to be repaired or rebuilt

Housing New Zealand says it will repair or fully rebuild its large housing complex in central Wellington.

The corporation moved residents out of the Gordon Wilson flats on the Terrace last May when an inspection found concrete facades could fall in an earthquake or strong wind.

Housing New Zealand asset development manager Sean Bignell says it will make a final decision on the site's future in the next three months.

He says options such as partial or interim repairs or a full rebuild are being considered, as well as commercial partners.

Mr Bignell says the agency will go for the option that will mean the building will last decades, and will not just go for the cheapest solution.
