One more week to complete census forms

9:50 pm on 3 April 2013

Anyone who has not returned a census form has one week to do so, before Statistics New Zealand begins considering legal action against those who have not completed a form.

The Government statistician, Geoff Bascand, says Statistics New Zealand has so far collected more than five million census forms and from 10 April will start processing the data.

Mr Bascand says warning or prosecuting people for failing to complete census forms is a last resort, but completing a form is required by law.

He says it is important everyone who was in New Zealand on census night, 5 March, fills in a census so the best information possible is available.
