Fire death no longer seen as suspicious

The police are no longer treating the death of a man in a fire in Auckland early on Wednesday morning as suspicious.

The Fire Service found the body as it was extinguishing the fire in bush at the rear of a Mt Albert property.

It says a fuel-ignited explosion may have started the blaze.

Fire Service spokesperson Phil Norris says a neighbour heard an explosion and a scream about 6.20am on Wednesday.

The 59-year-old's family have been told of his death.
