'Crime spree' couple face 60+ charges each

A couple who allegedly shot at police in the east Otago town of Palmerston in February, sparking an armed offenders' callout, have again appeared in court and now face more than 60 charges each.

The police say the pair, 25-year-old Christopher Shaw, also known by the surname Hubbard, and 20-year-old Stacey Snelleksz, who are both from Palmerston North, had been on a crime spree before they arrived in Otago.

At the Oamaru District Court on Wednesday, Snelleksz admitted eight charges, including theft from a vehicle and receiving stolen goods.

Neither of the accused entered pleas on the other charges, which include using a firearm against police officers.

They will appear in court again next month.
