Ninety high school students in Northland have taken part in an annual possum trapping, and fur and pelt recovery training programme.

Project Possum is run by Enviroschools Northland, th Northland Regional Council and the Department of Conservation with the high schools.

The programme has been running for three years and become increasingly popular each year.

Co-ordinator Susan Karels said possum fur recovery is a profitable business for both small and large operators.

She said a good trapper can get 100 possums a night and it doesn't take the students long to pick up on that.
