A hunter missing for two days in Wairarapa has made his way out of the bush.

Michael Lindsay made his way out of Aorangi Forest Park on Thursday after becoming separated from his four-person hunting party on Monday.

Search and rescue teams had been looking for the 22-year-old, who had failed to arrive at Kawakawa station east of Palliser Bay on Tuesday.

Search and rescue operation manager, Constable Pete Cunningham, said he was advised Mr Lindsay made his way out of the bush at Ruakokoputuna, and had spoken to an electrical linesman working there.

Mr Lindsay required treatment after walking 15 kilometres and having little food.

More than 50 people searched for him.
