An historian who ruffled feathers with his last book on Maori cannibalism is not shying away from controversial subject matter with his latest work.

Dr Paul Moon says The Edges of Empires deals with the cultural unease which started in the 1850's when the Maori population dropped significantly and pakeha became the dominant culture.

Dr Moon told Waatea News he used archives and private diaries, journals and correspondence from people living at the time to give an intimate account.
