Fair Go on rail wanted for Auckland

8:43 am on 15 April 2013

Auckland deputy mayor Penny Hulse says it's time the city got a fair go.

The Green Party on Sunday launched a petition to pressure the Government into funding at least 60% of an inner city rail loop and urged Aucklanders to lobby the Government to do so.

The project would allow more trains in and out of downtown Auckland but the Government has said there is no money to fund it.

Ms Hulse agrees it's time central Government listened to what Aucklanders want.

She said she knows taxpayers are being squeezed but Auckland represents a third of the country and deserves a fair go.
