Some resource management reforms 'could add delay'

Local Government New Zealand says aspects of a bill designed to streamline the Resource Management Act are fundamentally flawed.

Parliament's Local Government and Environment Select Committee has been hearing submissions on the proposed legislation which aim to end delays in getting projects of national significance through the resource consent process.

Dianne Hale from Local Government New Zealand told MPs that the agency supports the overall intention of the bill, but not all proposals have been well thought through and some have the potential to add delay and uncertainty.

Mrs Hale says Local Government New Zealand wants some of the proposals set aside for more considered analysis.
