Bail denied to Matamata body accused

12:22 pm on 17 April 2013

One of the people charged after a series of events, including the discovery of a woman's body outside a hospital in Matamata almost two weeks ago, has been denied bail.

The body of Jovaan Graham, who was 18 and from Tauranga, was found by hospital security staff at 4am on 3 April.

The police believe her death is linked to a string of events including a car crash in the Kaimai Ranges, an assault and a car theft.

Thirty year old Thomas McDonald and Cheyanne McCausland, who is 23 - both charged with aggravated robbery, kidnap, injuring with intent and stealing a car - appeared in the District Court in Tauranga on Tuesday morning.

Cheyanne McCausland applied for bail but was turned down.

Both the accused have been remanded in custody until 27 May.
