More interest shown in KiwiSaver - study

A study commissioned by the Financial Services Institute of Australasia shows KiwiSaver is being adopted by a wider range of people.

The UMR Research poll of 1000 people also shows KiwiSaver members are taking a more active role in their scheme by choosing their provider and checking their balances more frequently.

The study's author, Massey University senior lecture in banking Dr Claire Matthews, says there's also an increase in the number of respondents who think KiwiSaver should be compulsory.

Dr Matthews says that's due to more members and people realising that it's good for both themselves and the country to have funds going into KiwiSaver for their retirement.
