Christchurch construction yard plan dropped

Christchurch City Council has withdrawn plans to turn a suburban park into a construction yard hours before the council was due to vote on it.

The council had proposed to use a 100 metre by 50 metre space in Tumara Park as a yard to store equipment used for sewage infrastructure repairs.

Last week Parklands residents and the Burwood Pegasus Community Board voted unanimously against the plan.

Parklands spokesperson Marcus Brandrick says the community had concerns about increased heavy traffic around homes and schools and he is delighted the council listened to their concerns.
