A kidnapped Waitara taxi driver who was beaten and locked in the boot of his cab, says he was used as a punching bag by his attacker.

Tony Brosnan, 49, was found with critical head injuries at Urenui Primary School near New Plymouth.

Two JPs are deciding whether Raymond Edwards, 28, should stand trial for kidnapping, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and aggravated robbery.

Mr Brosnan says he picked up two men on 23 January. After dropping off one of them, the other began punching him in the head.

He says he tried fighting him off, but was dragged semi-conscious from the car, used as a punching bag and bundled into the boot.

Mr Brosnan says he still suffers loss of memory and some movement down his right hand side.
