Hastings police are searching for a vehicle that struck a seven-year-old boy.
Sergeant Ray Kirkby says the child was riding a tricycle on the road in front of his house on Sunday afternoon when he was run over.
Mr Kirkby says the conditions at the time were sunny and clear.
Police are seeking a black vehicle with a silver stripe and are appealing to the public for any information.
The boy is in a stable condition at Hawke's Bay Hospital.
