Prime Minister John Key has promised the Government will contribute $15 million towards an upgrade of the AMI stadium in Christchurch.
The $60 million re-development of the stadium will be completed in time for the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
Christchurch will host two of the quarter-final matches.
Mr Key says it is important for venues to be up to scratch as the tournament will attract thousands of visitors to the country.
He says the Government sees the $15 million as an investment into the infrastructure of Christchurch.
