Shot man charged with threatening to kill partner

The man shot and tasered by the police in Porirua has been charged with threatening to kill his pregnant partner.

The 47-year-old, who has name suppression, was shot in the shoulder by officers when they were called to a house in Penguin Grove at 5.30am on Thursday.

He appeared in the Porirua District Court on Friday afternoon and has been remanded in custody until 24 May.

The man is also charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, wounding with intent to injure and contravening a protection order.

His partner, Wanita Warahi, 39, was discharged from Wellington Hospital on Thursday and is being interviewed by police.

Another woman at the house, Johanna Warahi Wallace, 49, underwent surgery on Thursday night and remains in hospital.

As well as the criminal investigation, an Independent Police Complaints Authority investigation is also under way.
