The body of a 59-year-old man has been recovered from Lake Taupo.
Police say the man had launched his boat at Kinloch to go fishing on Saturday.
Two people at Kinloch saw him swimming towards the shore in the middle of the afternoon but he disappeared from view about 75 metres away, so they called police.
A Volunteer Coastguard crew found his body on the lake bed in about two metres of water.
The death has been referred to the coroner.
