The Government is investing $4 million to promote New Zealand businesses at the America's Cup in San Francisco.

From July, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise will be showcasing businesses at the Emirates Team New Zealand base.

The Waka Maori, a giant canoe-shaped building made for the Rugby World Cup in 2011, will be used as Team New Zealand's pavilion in San Francisco.

Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce says a range of sectors, including the marine, aviation, food and wine industries, will showcase their businesses.

Mr Joyce says the government has put money into the project, which will be worthwhile.

Auckland events agency ATEED says it's likely to invest 850 thousand dollars into the project.
