AA plans court action over 'frivolous' fines

10:23 pm on 7 May 2013

The Automobile Association says it is planning to take councils, parking companies and vehicle clampers to court for issuing frivolous fines.

The association says it is prepared to support members who it feels have been unjustly ticketed.

Spokesperson Mark Stockdale says the cost of that support is not yet known, but only a small portion of the hundreds of complaints it receives are considered valid.

He says the association wants to set a precedent and send a message to the authorities to rethink the way they issue and review fines.

Mr Stockdale says the AA plans to run a three- to six-month trial in the Wellington region.
