New archbishop being invested

8:05 am on 11 May 2013

The new archbishop of the Anglican Church in New Zealand is to be invested at a service in New Plymouth Saturday.

Reverend Philip Richardson, 55, will become one of three archbishops who jointly share the leadership of the church in New Zealand.

He has been a priest since 1982 and worked in Auckland, Dunedin and Whangarei before becoming the Bishop of Taranaki in 1999.

The new archbishop says one of his goals is to build a stronger sense of collegiality across the church during his seven year term.

On the topic of gay marriage, he says he can not express a personal view, but wants to make sure it is discussed thoroughly by the Church.
