The New Zealand Herald won the top award at the Canon Media Awards held in Auckland on Friday night.
The Herald won Best Newspaper of the Year and its website was judged best news site.
The Fairfax news site, Stuff, won best website, The Bay of Plenty Times took the award for best newspaper with a circulation less than 30,000 and Kapi-Mana News at Porirua was named as best community newspaper.
The Dominion Post Weekend won the prize for best weekly newspaper.
Senior reporter of the year was David Fisher of The New Zealand Herald and the photographer of the year was Stephen Parker of The Daily Post in Rotorua.
The award for best news-stand magazine went to New Zealand Geographic.
