Sea lion causing disruption on Bluff's main street

A sea lion has made its home on Marine Parade at Bluff, but is causing disruption to motorists.

The mammal was a novelty when it first showed up a month ago, but is now becoming a danger. Bluff people have called on the Department of Conservation to remove it.

Marie Leask who lives on Marine Parade, used a garden hose on Tuesday to try and force the sea lion back into the sea.

She says it returned later in the day and vehicles had to drive around it.

She's frightened the sea lion will be hit by a car and killed, or worse, cause a fatal car accident.

DoC says it is working on a plan which will see the mammal probably taken offshore, to an island.
