The Defence Force is getting 200 new military vehicles to replace its older Unimog and Mercedes trucks.
Defence Minister Jonathan Coleman has approved $135 million for the project.
The trucks will be able to carry more people and equipment and are fitted with armour and weapons.
They will arrive in New Zealand by the end of 2014.
