A man has died on a Napier building site after being hit on the head with a steel beam.
Police said the man was found lying unconscious at the old Farmers department store on Wednesday.
Ambulance crews and co-workers tried to resuscitate the 53-year-old, but he died at the scene.
Police said early indications suggest it was a tragic workplace accident.
Police and Department of Labour have begun separate investigations.
